Cedar Bog Restaurant

Have your students create a menu for the animals at the Bog. The menus should reflect the diet of specific animals that can be found at the Bog.

Example:

Pink Mouse Delight

Sun-baked pink mouse served as a main course on a delicious bed of prairie grass.

Toad a la Mode

A frothy creation of Bog Toad, smothered in creamy mouse sauce sure to please any gourmet massasauga rattler.

The students should choose to create menus geared specifically toward predators or herbivores. The dishes may be garnished with items found in the Bog that the animal does not necessarily eat, but the actual dish must be something the animal would consume.

What You Will Need:

  • Construction paper for the cover
  • Printable list of animal of the Bog
  • Crayons or colored pencils
  • White sheet of paper for menu insert
  • Glue

Objectives:

  • Understand the meaning of predator and prey.
  • Identify the function of a food chain.
