Fall's Bounty


These are seeds and fruits that the plants in the Bog bear in the fall. To see what the plant looks like in bloom, or to get more information about the plant see the bloomers pages. False Solomon's Seal AKA Solomon's Plume. Lily family.

Hairy Solomon's Seal
Polygonatum pubescens

Blooms: May-June

Nodding Trillium
Trillium flexipes

Nodding Trillium AKA Drooping Trillium. Lily family. This plant is similar to Bent Trillium. Nodding Trillium has pink anthers on its flower; Bent Trillium has white anthers on its flowers.

Bittersweet Nightshade
Solanum dulcamaara

Tomatoe and potatoe family. The fruits on this plant are poisonous.

Rose family.

Nannyberry
Viburnum lentago

Nannyberry AKA Sweet Viburnum or Wild Raisin. Honeysuckle family. This bush blooms in the Bog and produces bluish-black fruit that is edible.

Ninebark

Rose family.
Blooms: May-July.

Grape Honeysuckle
Lonicera prolifera

This is a native vine.


White Baneberry
Actaea pachypoda

White Baneberry AKA Doll's Eyes. Buttercup family. This plant is better known by the white berries that it gets which resemble the eyes of a china doll. The berries are poisonous.

Barberry
Berberis vulgaris

Barberry family. There are some native varities of Barberry, this isn't one of them.
